What does it take to become a Hot Rox Dancer? The Hot Rox are interested in hiring diverse performers with a strong level of commitment to the team. The Judges will be looking for:

What can I do to prepare for the auditions? Participation in the Hot Rox audition workshop is the best way to prepare for auditions. Actual Hot Rox routines/choreography will be taught at the workshop. Prep class participants will have the opportunity to speak with former Chicago Shamrox Hot Rox dancers and have a Q&A session with Hot Rox Dancer's Director/Choreographer. Q&A topics will include: tips on audition, attire, "what to expect", professional make-up application and hair styling, and interview/speaking preparation. How often do the Hot Rox dancers practice? Hot Rox dancers practices are currently scheduled for once a week. Additional practices may be added closer to the season or as needed. Practices are held in a central location near the stadium.
Is this a paid position? Yes, this is a paid professional dance team position. The Hot Rox dancers are paid on a per game basis. You may also be paid for certain promotions or have opportunities through sponsors for paid appearances.
What do I need to bring to auditions? The audition process is a full day process. Bring plenty of water and snacks to keep your energy up. Dancers will be given a break for lunch. Other items to have on hand at auditions: knee-pads, additional pairs of pantyhose, alternative shoes to dance in, warm-ups (to keep your muscles warm between auditions), I-pod, book or other form of entertainment for during the judges deliberations.
Will I need to choreograph my own routine? No, all choreography will be taught at the auditions. The finalist advancing to the second round will learn the remainder of the choreography at the two practices the week following the first round.
How many dancers will be chosen for the Hot Rox Dance Team? We are looking to take 35-50 dancers to the finals where the official team will be selected. The final team will consist of approximately 16-24 dancers chosen to represent the 2008-09 Chicago Shamrox Hot Rox Dance team.
Do current dance team members have to re-audition? Yes, all dancers must re-audition each season. (This excludes the director and two captains)
Are there height and weight requirements for the Hot Rox Dancers? No. Height and weight should be proportionate. We do also put all Hot Rox dancers through a 2 week boot camp following the final auditions to prep for our photo shoots and season.
What can I do to stand out from the rest of the dancers auditioning?
Be enthusiastic throughout the auditioning process. We're looking for dancers with positive attitudes and a good work ethic.
Attire is crucial. Plan ahead and be creative in selecting your audition attire. BE NOTICED!!!!
Let us know about you!! Although you will not be judged on your performance at the audition workshop, you will be noticed if we see you multiple times.
Get your application in early!! The more time we have to look over your material and photograph the more we will know you when you walk into the auditions. Don't be afraid to call or email with questions. each time we see your name or face is another impression!!
Can my family and friends watch auditions? No, the first round of auditions are closed to the public NO EXCEPTIONS. The final round of auditions on August 16, 2008 will be open to the public and the media. We encourage the finalists to have family and friends come cheer them on at the finals.
Can I attend the audition workshop if I am not 18? Yes. Dancers must be 16 years of age and over to attend the audition workshop. The workshop is geared towards giving high school aged women and over a look into the world of professional dance teams and their choreography. It is set in a fun, energetic environment teaching Hot Rox style of Hip Hop, Thrashy Jazz, Funk, and high energy Poms.
Can I request a copy of the judges score sheets after auditions? No. Score sheets are not available for candidates to review. However, you are welcome to email/call the director to get positive feedback on your auditioning performance.
